Chiara Barzini embarks on AQUA US tour

With Chiara Barzini in the middle of her US book tour for Aqua: A Story of Water and Lost Dreams, what better moment to share some of the hauntingly beautiful images of the roadtrip which inspired the book?

The final NYC event for Aqua was at Rizzoli Bookstore on Wednesday, and Chiara is moving on to LA this week.

In Chiara’s words, “The book had a slightly strange life: it started in Italian, veered into English, was translated back into Italian, edited there, and then reworked again in English.”

If you’re curious about this somewhat unusual linguistic process, we recommend that you read Chiara’s brilliant piece in Lit Hub, where she was in conversation with Jhumpa Lahiri about writing in an interim language.

You can see more of Chiara’s photos of the roadtrip that features in the book in AnOther Magazine.

Aqua was published in the UK by Canongate in October of last year, and on 14 April in the US by Unnamed Press.

‘Water of course isn’t only water, it is life itself; and so what begins as a research of the Mulholland project diverting water from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles and held aloft by successive meetings with a Hollywood Director held me fascinated until the very end.’
