Oxford and London Events for HOW TO SAVE THE AMAZON

On the occasion of the paperback publication of How To Save The Amazon by Dom Phillips (with Contributors), there will be two very special events in Oxford and London.

Four years ago, UK journalist Dom Phillips accompanied the Brazilian expert in Indigenous affairs, Bruno Pereira, on research trip to the Javari region to learn about indigenous defenders of the Amazon. They were both shot dead in a killing that had reverberations around the world, drawing heightened international attention to the huge danger faced by those trying to protect the Amazon. The book Dom was writing at the time – How To Save The Amazon – was completed by other people, one of whom was Beto Marubo, a representative of the Indigenous peoples of the Javari who had come to know and respect Dom. Beto Marubo and Dom’s wife Alessandra Sampaio will be visiting the UK from Brazil o talk about Beto’s work, developments in the Javari after the death of Dom and Bruno, and the ongoing investigation into their deaths.

In London on 20 April, Second Home will host an event with the collaboration of Brazil Matters and Survival International. In Oxford on 22 April, the Natural History Museum of Oxford will host an exciting evening of events and discussion in celebration of Earth Day and the Amazon.
