Prize Announcement Day Desk

Alice Albinia made this pine desk on which she wrote The Britannias when she was 12 for a design project at school. She 'spent ages sanding it'. On the desk is Orkney flotsam and jetsam picked up when she was living there to research the book, which is shortlisted for the 2024 Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year(announced tonight) and longlisted for the inaugural Women's Prize for Non-Fiction.

You can read aninterview with Aliceon the Women's Prize website.

And Suzannah Lipscomb also has a great conversation with Alice about islands on Suzannah's podcast Not Just The Tudors, which is well worth listening to.
