Yadvinder Malhi
““He writes with a lucid, compelling combination of wonder and knowledge, and his subjects could hardly be vaster or more vital””
Yadvinder Malhi is a pioneering scientist working on the challenges of understanding and restoring ecosystems and the global biosphere. He is Professor of Ecosystem Science at the University of Oxford, and Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery. He has worked on these topics for over thirty years, conducting challenging field research in some of the most remote regions of the world, from the Amazon to Siberia, and founding and nurturing global networks of tropical forest and savanna research.
He has published over 550 articles in the scientific literature on ecology, receiving awards such as the Marsh Award for Climate Change (2016), the Patrons’ Medal of the Royal Geographical Society (2018) and, most recently, the Ramon Margalef Prize for Ecology (2025), one of the world’s premium awards for ecologists.
He is also a Trustee of the Natural History Museum of London and a Fellow of the Royal Society, and was appointed a CBE in 2020 for his services to ecosystem science. He lives in Oxford. Vibrant Earth is his first book.
